Preparing your screen enclosure for a hurricane is important.
You need to look at the screws and bolts to see if they are rusty. Old rusty screws snap and fall out. This does not happen all at one time. But it happens that a few at a time fall out and at some point the structure comes apart.
You may have a lot of rusty screws but your structure seems fine. But then you get a stong wind or hurricane and it just comes apart.
So, check your structure for rusty screws and loose areas.
Secure your screen enclosure by replacing rusty screws and tighten up loose joints.

Children are out of school for the summer and ready to take advantage of all things fun and interesting. That could include having a swim in your pool. Keep your pool enclosure screens repaired so as to deter the kids from using your pool for their fun and possibly getting hurt.
Recreational time at public and residential swimming pools and spas is a favorite activity for children and adults all over the country. Whether enjoying pool time with family and friends, exercising, playing water sports, or learning to swim, everyone needs to be mindful of the potential for incidents and drownings in pools and spas.
Each year, nearly 300 children under the age of five drown in residential and public pools and spas. Submersion incidents requiring emergency-room treatment or hospitalization number in the thousands and many victims experience permanent disability, including brain damage.
Few people know of the hidden dangers from drain or suction entrapments. Drains with broken, missing, or faulty covers can entrap hair, the body, limbs, jewelry and clothing, or cause disembowelment/evisceration.

When you are planning to replace your roof and have a pool Enclosure attached to the house, you need to ask your contractor several things.
1. Will your pool Enclosure need to be disconnected from the house at any point before, during or after the roof is to be replaced. (If so, is that included in the price).
2. Does any of the facia board that is between the pool enclosure and the house need to be replaced and how much. (Most of the time the pool enclosure needs to be disconnected when the facia is replaced).
3. It is good to get the total price of everything that needs to be done before you sign for the roof is replaced.
4. Generally, extra work, such as disconnecting the pool/patio enclosure or replacing screen is not included in the price of replacing the roof.

Safety First: Screen Enclosures can be very tall. The Alumium can get very hot during the summer and even burn your skin. Be very careful when you climb on the enclosure. The enclosure may have bolts missing or the wood on your house could be rotting. The screen enclosure is also referred to as a sceen room or lanai screen.
Make sure someone is home if you are working on the top of the pool enclosure or on high ladders. Even if you fall in the swimming pool you could hit your head, foot, or arm on the side of the pool and it could knock you out enough that you could drown. Even the impact of thye water could knock you out.

Hurricanes are severe tropical storms that form in the southern Atlantic Ocean, Caribbean Sea, Gulf of Mexico and in the eastern Pacific Ocean. Scientists can now predict hurricanes, but people who live in coastal communities should plan what they will do if they are told to evacuate.
What should you do to prepare your screen enclosure for the hurricane season.
Check your enclosure for rusty or loose screws, missing screws or missing bracing.
Everything put togather sooner or later falls apart, sooner when the connectors are rusty or worn.
If you are handy, you can replace screws or bolts yourself.
Check for weak, poorly attached corners. Enclosure angles and corners take heavy stress during a storm and one break can bring down an entire pool cage.
Check for improperly anchored support beams. Anchoring beams through pavers is not sturdy. Heavy winds can pull the pavers free from their mortar and sand base.

What is the difference between Lanai and Patio?
- Lanai already has a existing roof and concrete floor that are usually a part of the house, unlike the patio that will need a aluminum or screen roof and sometimes a slab.
What colors are available?
- Aluminum frame color choices are white or bronze (usually referred as black)
- The most common screen color is Charcoal, there are also white and gray screens.
- Remember to check with your Community HOA(home owners association) what colors are required by your community, if you live in a community.
What is the difference between screen roof and aluminum roof?
- Screen roof is just like the rest of your screen; aluminum roof is made out of aluminum. – Aluminum roof can be made out of insulated or uninsulated panels. – The insulated panels have the insulation build in between two sheets of aluminum. – Insulated roofs are more expensive, but quieter. Uninsulated aluminum roofs are louder and less money.

Sometimes you find a hole in your screen and you don’t have the time to call someone to repair it as soon as would like. To patch the hole (even a fairly big hole) all you need is a small tube of clear silicone cauking (get that from paint department at Home Depot) and a piece of screen.
Cut the piece of screen about 1/2 inch larger than the hole. Spread the cauking all over the patch and cover the hole. Make sure the screen is dry before you start. The patch will not stick to wet screen.
